Pakistan is a beautiful country that often bleeds with the most horrible news. Yesterday was no exception, as word spread that Malala Yousafzai, a 14-year-old girl and well-known advocate for female education, had been shot in the head and neck on her way home from school. No one was surprised who was behind the vicious attack on the ninth-grader. The Pakistani Taliban quickly took responsibility, claiming she was guilty of “promoting Western culture in Pashtun areas.” According to another girl injured in the attack, Taliban gunmen stopped their school bus. A militant asked which girl was Malala, and then opened fire.
Even in a place that has experienced no shortage of violence, like the Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan where Yousafzai lives, yesterday’s attack was met with disbelief. The young Pakistani activist made a name for herself when she began blogging about life under the Taliban for BBC Urdu at age 11. The Pakistan government awarded her its first National Youth Peace Prize last year. After the attack, Yousafzai was airlifted to a hospital in Peshawar. As of Wednesday morning, surgeons had removed the bullet from her head and she was listed in stable condition. If she does indeed recover, Taliban militants promise they will try to kill her again.....Read the rest at Slate.com Fun Searches - Aelita Andre Paintings(a 5 year old prodigy)

She’s only 5 years old, but Aelita Andre’s paintings were being snapped up for over $20,000 by the age of 4—the same age she had her first solo exhibition. She wasn’t even 2 when she made her commercial debut in a group exhibition. Time magazine, The New York Times and the BBC have all commented on her surrealist style, and she is currently showing her work at the Agora gallery in N.Y.C. through July 3, billed as Aelita Andre: Secret Universe. Time will tell if she’s the next Picasso or Dali, but for now her résumé ain’t too shabby. BNN - Small Wonders(Amazing Child Prodigies) - From Oprah.com

From: Jesus Calling by Sarah Young Do not long for the absence of problems in your life. That is an unrealistic goal, since in this world you will have trouble. You have an eternity of problem free living reserved for you in heaven. Rejoice in that inheritance, which no one can take away from you, but do not seek your heaven on earth. Begin each day anticipating problems, asking God to equip you for whatever difficulties you will encounter. The best equipping is God's living presence, His hand which will never lets go of yours. Discuss everything with God. Take a lighthearted view of trouble, seeing it as a challenge that you and God together can handle. Remember that He is on your side, and He has overcome the world. Austerity drives up suicide rate in debt-ridden Greeceupdated 10:00 AM EDT, Fri April 6, 2012
(CNN) -- When Apostolos Polyzonis's bank refused to see him last September, the 55-year-old Greek businessman had just 10 euros ($13) in his pocket. Out of work and bankrupt, he thought all he could do with his remaining money was to buy a gas can. Desperate and angry, Polyzonis stood outside the bank in central Thessaloniki, in northern Greece, doused himself in fuel and surrendered to the flames. "At that moment, I saw my life as worthless, I really didn't care if I was going to live or die," recalls Polyzonis, who says he was hit by financial troubles after the bank recalled a loan given to him for his business. "My sense of living was much lower than my sense of self-respect and pride, the fact that I had lost my right to be a free Greek," adds Polyzonis. Polyzonis, a father of three, was eventually saved by police. He recovered after spending seven days in hospital on life support.
